Onboarding New Sales Reps? There’s An App For That.

OG-Modern Onboarding-FeaturedI recently wrote a byline for TD Magazine, which stands for Talent Development. I highlighted the idea that sales training can actually keep reps awake, excited and learning. Don’t believe me? It’s possible. I promise.

To do so, you have to take the reps out of the classroom. Just imagine one day after another filled with talking heads and PowerPoint presentations. Would you be effective after such training? Probably not.

Consider this: get your reps into the environment in which they’re required to succeed – something we’ve dubbed, “learn like they earn.” This unique approach is a combination of a specific onboarding program combined with a culture of continuous learning for new sales reps. I’m not talking about learning the phone systems, expense systems, etc. I’m talking about the SaaS stack that is inevitably waiting for your sales rep that you spent quite a bit of money on. If that’s not covered during onboarding, you’ve already lost money.

And this approach shouldn’t be considered for rookies; consider this approach for even the most seasoned sales rep. That seasoned sales rep probably fell into a cycle of predictability at their last job, something we call comfort selling, selling the same solution rather than morphing out to new solutions. It happens a lot with seasoned sales reps. They know how to sell the basics and in a critical deal, they don’t want to explore new, unchartered territory because they won’t want to do anything that will jeopardize that deal. But teaching even your seasoned sales reps how to effectively sell all the solutions in your repertoire means more revenue for your organization and for them too.
